Week 10
----MTV, CBS, and parent company VIACOM----
(wardrobe malfunction my ass)
'We are very sorry about the unintentional boob showing' and in completely unrelated news, we are proud to announce the highest Super Bowl ratings in 6 years!"

OK...so Super Bowl XXXVIII is over and much to the joy of my best friend here in Phoenix, her boyfriend Tom Brady and the rest of the Pats have become the champs for the second time in three years. I’m happy too I suppose, because the Pats are the closest thing I have to a favorite team. You see I’m from L.A. and seeing as how we lost both our teams in recent years (not that I ever liked the Raiders or Rams anyway) and considering that I now live in Arizona (home of the most worthless football team in the country), I became a New England fan strictly to support Steph (my best friend) and her family who are all from Boston and are probably the most hardcore group of Boston fans not currently living in Boston. OK, so back to the important stuff...
I don’t suppose any of you happened to notice that half-time show did ya?
Well, if you didn’t, then you most definitely have heard about it, seen a replay of it,
or seen the ‘stills’ from the Janet Jackson-Justin Timberlake rendition of
‘Rock Your Body’. And in case you haven’t here ya go.
Apparently there wasn't supposed to be any ripping off of anything and there really wasn't supposed to be any...how did Justin put it, oh, yes, 'wardrobe malfunction' (talk about spinning something?!)
For more still shots and close-ups, (because really, who can't get enough of Michael Jackson's sister's boob), like
then
here's one
and another. Enjoy.
Now as far as I'm concerned, big F-ing deal... for all we know it really could have been some sort
of jewelry/make-up job, made to look real when in fact it wasn't...and maybe it was... either way, I know
I've seen more inappropriate things on national Tv than Janet Jackson's right boob. OK, so good, we agree on that....
Now HERE is where I get aggravated and so much so that I make the topic my spin of the week. Let's take a look at what
MTV's OWN website had posted on January 28...with the headline:
Janet Jackson's Super Bowl Show Promises 'Shocking Moments'
"I don't think the Super Bowl has ever seen a performance like this," [choreographer, Gil] Duldulao added. "The dancing is great. She's more stylized, she's more feminine, she's more a woman as she dances this time around. There are some shocking moments in there too. It's a lot of pressure, there's so many creative people and creative artists, you want to make sure everything is different, and I think she's going to do that. She's doing her job well."
Now let's remember that this is on their own website...now if you want to view this page, well, it seems that MTV has taken down the page in recent hours.....hmmmm.....but thanks to the magic of Google you can view the original page right here.
Now why don't we take a look at MTV's official press release regarding the incident.
unrehearsed?, unplanned?, unintentional? inconsistent with assurances?"
Give me a break people, you knew what you were doing and so did CBS. That's right, CBS who has claimed to be unaware of the plans to actually take Justin's words literally and have Janet naked by the end of the song, not only KNEW about it but approved it! CBS has also said that it is unlikely that MTV will ever produce the show for them again due to this incident. Well, OK, but considering the fact that both MTV and CBS are owned by Viacom, I'm not sure if it matters, I mean its all one big family business and they'll probably kiss and make up before the next Super Bowl.
Earlier this afternoon, Janet Jackson apologized for the now called 'last-minute stunt that went awry.' She then goes on to say that MTV and CBS had no idea about it and that it wasn't their fault....ummm.....so which is it? Mistake? Stunt Gone Awry? Accident? or what I think is the most probable and likely answer, 'A PERFECTLY EXECUTED PLAN' by MTV, CBS, Janet, Justin and everyone else involved.
Oh...incidentally, CBS is more than happy to tell everyone what fabulous ratings they had....the most watched Super Bowl in 6 years. So I'm not really sure who the exact 'spinner' of the week is because ultimately, I think that the honor belongs to Viacom who who told MTV to take one for the team (which it appears they've done) and then still be able to, how do I put this in lady like terms, ummm.... engage in mutually beneficial oral copulation..ok, if that doesn't make sense, and I'm not sure it does, then being the lady that I am, perhaps this line from Pulp Fiction will give you a better idea of what I'm trying to say.. Plus I think its a funny line...but perhaps not as funny as the lines of spin that MTV and CBS have laid out, which is what makes them the spinners of the week.
