I was recently passed a link to this website... which accepts submissions from people apologizing to the rest of the world for the election results... and found myself all but gagging at these people. For one thing, I happened to vote for Kerry, yes, that's right, I decided at the last minute to vote for Kerry and did so knowing that he would lose my state anyway.... In other words, it was a safe vote. I didn't like either of the candidates and though I tend to be much more conservative than liberal in my views, I have no loyalty to either party and at that moment in time the pen landed on 'Kerry', again, I knew he was going to lose my state. That being said, I take real issue with the people on that site apologizing to the rest of the world for three reasons, 1) They are apologizing on my behalf but just because I voted for Kerry, doesn't mean I feel the need to apologize to ANYONE, 2) They are referring to 'the other' 51% of the nation (i.e. the ones that voted for Bush) as morons and considering that there was a very real possibility that I too would have voted for Bush, I take that as a personal insult and 3) When was the last time we got an apology from anyone? Like say:
Rather than spending time apologizing to the rest of the world and showing how weak some of us feel, why not do something productive? It's people like them (the ones on the site) that make me embarrassed to say I voted for Kerry. Now upon opening my mouth and voicing my opinion, I was immediately tagged a 'Bush worshipper' which, um, isn't remotely true... How come just because I don't want to apologize to the rest of the world that makes me a bush worshipper? For one thing, I VOTED FOR KERRY....I put that in big letters because apparently people must not be able to see the smaller font, or at least that's what it must be because I'd be a pretty pathetic excuse for a Bush worshipper if I didn't even vote for him. And for another thing, just because I don't like Kerry, that DOESN'T MEAN I LIKE BUSH! I just don't understand how people can believe that this is a black and white issue...And until people in this country, Republicans and Democrats alike, realize that most all issues are NOT black and white, then we will always be apologizing to the rest of the world no matter WHO is President.
If I go to get dressed in the morning and the only two jackets that I can find in my closet are a green one without pockets and burgundy one with pockets then I'm SOL if I want a green one with pockets cause I don't have that choice....Either I'm going to wear a color I don't really like or I'm going to have a jacket without pockets, that's it. Of course I could chose neither and risk being cold right? Now if I go to the polling booth and have to chose between 2 people, neither of which I like and for different reasons, then I have to make a choice, one or the other. Or no one, of course... As much as I would like to take some of Kerry's positions (although to be honest with you, I'm still not really sure what they are) and some of Bush's positions, and mesh them together to create the perfect President, I can't do that so I'm stuck.
I actually feel that the biggest problem with the parties is that before a candidate even gets to try convince the Country as a whole to vote for them, they have to convince their own party...and while a very left-leaning candidate might share the same values as say, 90% of their own party, they'd have to remember that this would mean they share much less of the same values with other parties. If anything, I should be angry with the Democrats for having chosen someone who was so far to the left that they didn't have a chance to nudge over all those voters who sit somewhere in the middle. The Democrats set themselves up for failure the minute John Kerry was nominated and for that reason I have a very hard time looking at all those people on that website making apologies to the world without wanting to strangle them because it is those people who set those of us MODERATE Democrats, up to fail. I don't hate Kerry, I don't hate Bush, I DO hate that we are expected to chose one of two sides and then automatically be considered 'stupid' or a 'moron' if we disagree with something that we're 'supposed to' support.
Nothing pisses me off more than someone assuming that because I think those people on that site are bunch of morons, that I must obviously be a Bush supporter. I voted for Kerry, HELLO? Would you call me a Kerry worshipper if I made a website with people making obscene Bush signs but voted for Bush? Obviously not... I don't let my party define me, I define my party... Just because I'm pro-choice, doesn't mean that I think the 'rich' should have to pay higher taxes. Just because I don't think the government should grant money to religious organizations doesn't mean that I believe that the government should allow people to remain on welfare for an extended period of time..... So in other words, I believe in what I believe in and I don't give a sh!t which side that makes me lean more towards because I like and dislike Republicans and Democrats equally. People treat the parties like they would a sports team and that is really, really sad....unfortunately too many people in this country have no idea what being free means because if they did, they'd understand that a person can believe in whatever the f$%k they want and not be labeled to one side or another...and it is those people who believe it as who are the real clueless sheep.
Now back to this website that I find so sickening...I think that Democrats should be worried because the vast majority of the people on that site are quite pathetic, both looking and sounding and while I realize that this is the internet and people can do and post just about anything they want then that applies to me too and if you're dumb enough to put up a retarded looking picture of yourself then you're also too dumb to realize that you have now entered the world of photoshopping fun...Furthermore, like I've said before, I don't worship Bush but if those idiots on that website want to apologize to the rest of the world and call the other 51% of the country morons and stupid, then I feel it is my duty to provide a space for all the others to post their signs...I also took the liberty of photoshopping some of the peoples signs from that site...all the pictures are taken directly from the 'sorry' site and there are plenty more moronic looking pictures so feel free to add your own or add your own 'get over it' sign (submission forms are on the respective pages)....
