Week 2
----Lara Jakes Jordan and most all media outlets, In reference to her interview with with Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa.----
Oh and by the way, Mrs. Jordan just happens to be married to Sen. John Kerry's, D-Ma., presidential campaign manager

Well gee....a Republican says something controversial and the Democrats call for him to resign. Yea, I think we've seen this one before. But it is the 'spin' of this article that has me more infuriated than I ever would have been over the interview itself. In a nutshell (and being as objective and unbiased as I can) this is what happened: Republican Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, had an interview with a journalist in which a wide range of topics were discussed. One of those topics was homosexuality. Here is an unedited version of the the part of the interview that has caused the furor. (This will open a popup window with just the text)
That's the interview, word for word. Regardless of whether you agree with what he said, would you say this is cause for him to resign? Well all kinds of people and groups including many Democrats, have suggested that he should. Now, I don't think there will ever be a time when either political party doesn't take any and every opportunity to make the other look bad, so with that being said, let's take a look at all the spin that has come from this and the reason why Mrs. Jordan and the media are the 'Spinners of the Week"
As noted at the top of the page, the AP journalist who did the interview, Lara Jakes Jordan,
is married to James Jordan who is as luck would have it, Democratic Senator John Kerry's campaign manager.
So that in and of itself seems to make Mrs. Jordan's objectives for this interview somewhat suspicious and as noted in this article, I believe they call that a "conflict of interest."
And not surprisingly, John Kerry was quick to put in his two cents on the matter, "The White House speaks
the rhetoric of compassionate conservatism, but they're silent while their chief
lieutenants make divisive and hurtful comments that have no place in our politics."
Oh....and one more important thing to note.....Senator Santorum NEVER SAYS THE WORD GAY
in the interview, but Mrs. Jordan inserted (in brackets) the word 'gay', all on her
own. And while the 'unedited' version I have doesn't mention that word, most 'unedited'
versions of this same interview have 'gay' conveniently inserted, courtesy of Mrs. Jordan. And
consequently, this is the statement that most everyone refers to, as does MSNBC,
"IF THE SUPREME Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your
home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the
right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything,
Santorum said in an interview with Associated Press, which was published Monday." Now look
at that, this article was spinning before anyone even got a hold it!
CNN (Susan Walsh) 'Santorum says gay acts threat to American family'
CNN (Sean Loughlin) 'Santorum under fire for comments on homosexuality 'I have a problem with homosexual acts'
Yahoo! (Lara Jakes Jordan) 'Santorum Says Homosexual Acts a Threat'
Salon.com (Lara Jakes Jordan) Boy, she sure went to town with this interview 'Gay groups want Santorum out of leadership'
New York Post 'PA. SENATOR: HOMOSEXUAL ACTS WRONG'
The Boston Herald (Noelle Straub) 'Senator's anti-gay comments draw fire'
The Philadelphia Daily NewsOne of the most obnoxious, ludicrous, articles yet 'If Rick Santorum let former Iraqi Minister of Information Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf do his talking, this is what the irrepressible propaganda man might say'
And here are some articles, not on the Senator's statements, but about the spin created by the media and Mrs. Jordan (same point as what I'm saying, just a some others take on it)
Rush Limbaugh Yes, I know, even I was surprised to find myself actually agreeing with something Rush says!
CNSNews.com This article suggests the Associated Press Ombudsman investigate Mrs. Jordan, I agree completely and hope she pays the consequences for her actions. Perhaps she can 'officially' join the John Kerry campaign. Not the "officially" in quotes.
World Net Daily 'Blaring bias'
Bill O'Reilly O'Reilly's 'Talking Points memo, from the NO spin zone. And before you go accusing him of anything, read what he says carefully, and note that he himself doesn't agree with Sen. Santorum's views, but also points out that there is NO reason for him to step down from anything and instead encourages people to 'VOTE' him out next election if they don't agree with his views on this matter.
