----The Walt Disney Company----
What do U.S. Navy submarines armed with Trident nuclear missiles, George Bush's ranch and Disneyland have in common? Well for one, they all have official no-fly zones in their airspace...which makes sense because.... um.....ummmmm......

So you're thinking....well there must be SOME reason that congress has allowed this to pass...right? Well, according to Disney spokeswoman Leslie Goodman, "The sole and exclusive motivation for seeking these restrictions is for the safety and enjoyment of our guests", explaining that "enjoyment" meant everything from keeping out "banner ads from trial lawyers" to pilots "buzzing the parks." Now does this sound like a terrorist threat?

Well, perhaps Disney sees aerial-advertising planes and sightseeing planes and helicopters as terrorists, which seems to be the case because Disney has been fighting to get their airspace restricted since the 1960s when they didn't want banner advertising planes flying over their park and trying to lure park visitors away from Disney and over to other nearby attractions (which it did, by the way).

OK, well, it seems to me that this is an issue with a free market government, or something like that, but I'd say it has very little to do with the terrorist threats to our country. So I guess Disney, who has been like I said, trying to get their airspace restricted for 30+ years finally put a nice little spin on their reasons for wanting it and vóila! Permission granted!

According to various sources, it appears that Senators Ted Williams, R-Ak and Richard Shelby, R-Al were instrumental in making sure that Disney was added to the list of places in the U.S. that was granted permanent no-fly zone status. FYI - One of Senator Stevens former aides Mitch Rose, who had worked for the Senator for 10 years until he left to work for....guess who.....Disney in 2000, is said to have had 'an influence' on Stevens. Gee, you don't think that there is a connection do you?

So the question is, what makes Disneyland and Disneyworld important enough to the United States Government that they need the same protection as nuclear bombs? Hmmmmm..... And furthermore, in all actuality, the only pilots who would actually abide by these rules, are the law-abiding pilots! According to just about everyone it would take a small plane a matter of seconds to be over the no-fly zone, long before anyone could avert it, and I might go out on a limb here, but generally the terrorists who would be planning an attack, probably wouldn't make it a point to follow the law, so in reality, this really doesn't avert any terror attacks, but it certainly does leave Disney with open skies free of any potential competitors!

Seems that this is a major concern to pilots, as seen in this AOPA letter to the FAA dated March 13.

Now, here's a question for the GOP....so I guess that those special restrictions are going to remain even after Michael Moore finishes his documentary 'FAHRENHEIT 911' in which Moore claims he will document on film how the "senior Bush kept his ties with the bin Laden family up until two months after Sept. 11." Oh, and did I mention that WALT DISNEY is financing this movie! And it'll be just in time for the 2004 election! Uh...oh....looks like someone's gonna be in trouble!
